All-SEC, Big Ten Playoff Possible in Week 4-Bowl Forecasts. Four teams have established themselves as legitimate contenders for a position in the College Football Playoff after the first three weeks of the season.
Both Georgia and Alabama, who played in the CFP championship game a year ago, now hold the top two spots in the rankings. Georgia is currently rated first, while Alabama is currently ranked second.
Ohio State and Michigan, two schools that have been rivals for as long as the Big Ten Conference has been, are now ranked third and fourth, respectively. In Week 3, each of the four educational institutions was successful, and their victories were clear-cut.
It Was a Poor Week for Top-10 College Football Teams To Face Sun Belt clubs
When you’re ranked among the top 10 college football teams, the last week to face Sun Belt opponents is a tough one. Even though Texas made a gallant attempt to pull off an upset, Alabama was fortunate it didn’t have to play one.
As a result of the Crimson Tide’s performance in that game, there is now a new team projected to win the College Football Playoff. Georgia has been the best team through the first two weeks of the season, therefore the Bulldogs have moved up to No. 1 and Alabama has dropped to No. 3.
Ohio State beat Arkansas State and stayed at No. 2 in the CFP rankings while also avoiding the Sun Belt curse this week. The Sooners, who were picked to finish fourth, took some time to get going but finally breezed past No. 13 Kent State.
There will be no change for the Sooners, either. Even though the same four teams are still alive in the playoffs, the two remaining clubs have been switched around.
Championship Game of College Football
The Sun Belt crushed the remainder of the New Year’s Six forecasts, beginning with Notre Dame, who fell at home to Marshall, 26-21.
When not in the New Year’s Six, the Fighting Irish play in ACC bowls. NC State is in the Cheez-It Bowl instead of Notre Dame since it has two more victories. Every bowl that can get Notre Dame will want them, so they can choose.
The greatest bowls are in San Diego and Jacksonville. Since Notre Dame played in Southern California this season, it’s expected to play in the Gator Bowl versus Arkansas, its best probable opponent.
Marshall is expected to represent the G5 in the New Year’s Six. It won’t be simple for the Thundering Herd to run the table. Their home schedule includes Louisiana, Coastal Carolina, and Appalachian State. The Mountaineers upset Texas A&M 17-14 at Kyle Field.
The Mountaineers scored 61 points in a loss to North Carolina a week earlier. College football is great. Tennessee replaces Texas A&M as the SEC’s Sugar Bowl representative. Clemson’s Orange Bowl opponent is Penn State.
The Bowl Games Known As the “New Year’s Six”
In the early going, the Sun Belt maintained its position at the top of the Group of Five. After the first two weeks of play, the whole Group of Five has five wins over the strong competition, with the Sun Belt holding four of those victories.
Saturday’s victory against Colorado gave Air Force its sixth straight victory. It has never been the case before, but if the winner of the Sun Belt conference were to make it into the New Year’s Six, it would be a first.
The Conference USA has not qualified a team for the New Year’s Six tournaments as of yet. Marshall is the team that will play in the Cotton Bowl after Cincinnati was eliminated from the predictions for this week.
