Women are now getting the attention they deserve in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where males formerly dominated.
Oh! And Where Is It Being Held?
The Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Bangladesh will serve as the host venue for all of the matches that are scheduled to take place there.
Since Pakistan’s trip in October 2018, this would be the first time the country has hosted women’s international matches since those matches were played in the country.
Additionally, Sylhet will serve as a host location for women’s international competitions for the first time since the T20 World Cup in 2014.
Which Teams Are Competing? Just How Structured Is It?
In 2012, Twenty20 competition was introduced to the Women’s Asia Cup. The most recent one occurred in 2018, while the one scheduled for Bangladesh in 2020 was delayed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and then canceled entirely.
The fourth Twenty20 Asia Cup will be played in 2022, making the total number of tournaments eight when adding the four 50-over tournaments played in 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2008.
There will be seven teams competing for the trophy this time around. Round-robin play will include matches between India, Pakistan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and hosts Bangladesh.
The top four teams from each group will advance to the two semi-finals, making this the longest Asia Cup ever for women.
The earlier two tournaments had a total of six teams, and the league stage culminated with a match between the two best teams.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be making their maiden participation in the tournament by winning the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Women’s T20 Championship and advancing to the finals
.

What Time Does It Begin, And How Long Will It Last?
The tournament begins on October 1 and runs for 15 days. The first game pits Bangladesh against Thailand. On the same day, India will face Sri Lanka in the afternoon.
The first games of the day get underway at 9 a.m., while the second ones go off at 1.30 p.m.
Which team is now the reigning champion?
After a thrilling final against India in Kuala Lumpur in 2018, Bangladesh was crowned champions of Asia.
The Indian cricket team has been dominant at the Asia Cup, winning all four 50-over tournaments and two of the three Twenty20 tournaments. Those results translate to 30 wins in 32 attempts.
In 2022, Will There Be Any Noteworthy Matches?
The matchup between India and Pakistan is certain if the tournament is held in Asia. Both squads will square off on October 7.
Four days later, Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in a potentially intriguing matchup. There have been 16 T20 Internationals played between the two teams, with Pakistan currently holding a 9-6 advantage (5-0 since 31 March 2018). In 2013, one game was postponed due to rain.
But before that, on October 4, you can also look forward to a visually striking matchup between Sri Lanka and Thailand.
Only once, in the 2018 Asia Cup, have these two sides faced each other, with Thailand pulling off the shock, becoming the first Associate Member to ever defeat a Full Member.
In addition, Thailand has played eight Twenty20 Internationals since August, while ssSri Lanka has only played two.
In 2020, Thailand gave Pakistan a scare in their first World Cup match until rain wrecked their chances of winning. Given that this will be the first meeting between the two squads since 2012, anything is possible on October 6th.
Tell Me About the Different Teams
After missing India’s England trip owing to injury, Jemimah Rodrigues is now back with the team. After being excluded from the Commonwealth Games, Richa Ghosh has made a return to England and is also a contender.
With Renuka Singh leading the seam assault, these two might be crucial in the middle order. Meanwhile, Pakistan took a hit when talented fast bowler Fatima Sana was sidelined after injuring her ankle during the CPL earlier this month.
However, they still have a reliable and seasoned core in Bismah Maroof, Nida Dar, and Aliya Riaz. With the addition of young Ayesha Naseem, Pakistan has become a legitimate power.
The additions of Jahanara Alam and Fargana Hoque supply Bangladesh a significant boost as they go into the Asia Cup riding high on their victory in the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier last week.
Meanwhile, skipper Nigar Sultana enters the Asia Cup having scored 180 runs in qualifying games, the highest by any Bangladeshi player.
With the youthful Vishmi Gunaratne out with a stress fracture of her back, Sri Lanka’s squad may once again have to rely on Chamari Athapaththu.
Hasini Perera and Harshitha Samarawickrama may be the anchors of the middle order, while spinners Inoka Ranaweera and Oshadi Ranasinghe may be crucial to their success with the ball.
Thailand is competing in the Asia Cup for the third year in a row, and after finishing fourth in T20 World Cup qualifying, they will be eager to prove themselves. Their top players are Natthakan Chantham, Nattaya Boochatham, and Chanida Sutthiruang.
Malaysia, spearheaded by Elsa Hunter’s batting, defeated Singapore 3-0 in the Saudari Cup after losing to the United Arab Emirates in the ACC T20 Championship final.
With the top strike rate in the match at 135, Hunter might be a major factor in Malaysia’s success with skipper Winifred Duraisingam and deputy Mas Elysa. Sasha Azmi, a right-arm seamer, has also been doing well and took part in the most recent Asia Cup.
Finishing Line
However, the United Arab Emirates has played the most Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) since 2021 (out of all Asia Cup teams) and has won 20 of those games, including a T20 World Cup qualifying match against a red-hot Zimbabwe team.
The core of their Asia Cup team consists of players like Esha Oza, Theertha Satish, Kavisha Egodage, and skipper Chaya Mughal.
At the first-ever FairBreak Invitational competition, which took place in the UAE in May, several players from the UAE and Malaysia got to meet many of the sport’s biggest names in women’s cricket.
